Some people only set goals at New Years. For us, we set 30 day, one year, and 5 year goals, and action plans to accomplish those goals on a weekly and monthly basis.
How about you? Think about the last year.
Now is a good time to ask yourself about how much progress you have made in the past year. Have you hit or missed certain marks? Were you able to achieve certain goals or not?
If you have a definitive answer because you set a certain yardstick to measure your success last year, then congratulations!
If you are not sure because you also failed to set predetermined standards for yourself, then you should keep reading. From now on, you must make it a point to set actual goals for yourself – especially for your business!
If you want to get started, there are timeless tactics and strategies that you can learn today. The first thing you should learn is the importance of writing down your goals.
In a survey made of Yale graduates of 1993 (20 years into their careers), 3% of these people are making more money than 97% of all graduates combined. The difference?
The 3% actually wrote down their goals! These graduates are already smart and hardworking, but a whole difference is made when people actually write down their goals and follow them.
So yes, that’s the FIRST GOLDEN rule among the 7 rules of effective goal setting. WRITE THEM DOWN!
Now let’s proceed with the others!
You have to write a specific goal. For example, you might say that you want more money. Well, so does everyone else. The challenge here is to think about how you can have more money? Should you take a sideline job to earn extra income? Monetize a certain hobby? Start an online business? Write it down!
If you want to lose weight, how much do you want to lose exactly? Do you plan to go to the gym daily or prepare a certain diet plan?
You have to be specific so your goal will be clearer. Once you are clear about it, it is easy to jot down the necessary steps towards achieving it.
Many motivational speakers will tell you to “dream big,” and there is nothing wrong with that. However, you have to set some realistic expectations.
For example, if you are a networker who currently earns $70,000 a year, and you want to hit around a million per year, then that would need a lot of work. It does not mean that you cannot hit a million within just a year, but it is not realistic for most of us (except if you really got lucky) in one year – but it could be realistic in 2-4 years, right?
So sure, you should aim to hit a million in income, but you have to set a realistic jump first. For example, you can set your initial goal to grow from $70,000 to earn $120,000 or $180,000 for the first year. Then you can increase that to $300-400,000 for the next year and so on.
Maybe you truly believe it will happen faster. Map it out, and then….
Now that you have made your goals pretty clear, it’s time to create an action plan. What should you do to reach $120-180,000 from $70,000 within 12 months? Does this mean that you have to boost your posts more often? Increase your advertise budget in order to generate more leads? Implement new content strategies? Or reach out through offline means?
Remember, a goal without a plan is only a wish.
For us, our results exploded once we set up 30 day action action plans, which have a goal and an intended result, and then broke into weekly actions needed to achieve the 30 day results.
As mentioned earlier, you can start with incremental and realistic goals for now, which in our example is to reach $120,000 to $180,000 in income by the end of the year. However, you should not forget about your bigger goal, which is to reach a million in income per year. A bigger goal will keep you motivated and excited to act on your plans.
The goal here is to make more money, but why? Many people would love to have more money, but we have different reasons. So you have to note your “why”. You might want more money to build a dream house, or to fund your further studies, and some other stuff.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not really just the money you want – but what you can do with it, right? So keep that in mind so you will be motivated to work harder and go farther.
Now we all know that writing all those goals and action plans means nothing if you don’t act on them. So needless to say, you have to move NOW! All those plans and goals will never be a reality if you don’t put in the effort. As a network marketer, you can start by committing to increase your daily sales and traffic.
These should be your first steps if you are planning to increase your monthly/annual income! So work on your videos, blogs and pages to get more traffic and sales. If you can pay for sponsored posts, then go for it – give yourself the advantage!
