If you have visited a car showroom or an IKEA recently, you might be already aware of what a sales funnel is. A sales funnel is a predetermined sequence of pitches (both soft and hard sells) that are designed to ultimately result in a sale. It is also used by telemarketers and online marketers, but with the use of a different set of tools.
Remember when you are in an IKEA, you are treated to a good view of all their other products before reaching the warehouse – showing you many more stuff that can sometimes convince you to buy more than what you have originally planned.
This trick, can, of course, apply in network marketing too! However, you have to remember that every step in a sales funnel is carefully planned and arranged. Each move is crafted with the grand design to close a sale at the end – so every step of the way matters! While creating your sales funnel, you have to dissect the process over and over again to ensure that it will be effective at the end of the day.
Turning a complete stranger into a lead, a prospect, and ultimately a networking partner is no easy feat. It requires a whole lot of patience and creativity. Not to mention the enthusiasm that you have to keep up during the whole process. But we will try to make the sales funnel process simpler by cutting it in just 3 steps:
Many marketers and networkers are overwhelmed by the fact that they have to reach out to strangers and make them customers/clients/partners at the end of the day. Although it is possible to turn complete strangers into business partners, your success will, however, be small if you constantly think about how to make that long jump. To maximize your success rate, you have to think small. Don’t think about how you can convince them to join your network just yet – what you have to do is to get their full attention and trust.
This is the purpose of Social Media, websites/blogs, and emails. If stores can display their goods on glass windows and counters, what you have is the power of the Internet to garner attention. However, talking solely about yourself and the business will not gain the attention of people who don’t even know who and what you are.
If you really want to get a stranger’s attention, you have to talk about them – their desires, wants, needs and problems. You have to make your business relevant in their lives and to make it relevant, it has to fit in with either their needs or desires.
Once you have their full attention, you must pull your prospects further in. In the real world, this is the job of a car salesman (in a showroom) or a saleslady (in the grocery). These people greet you once you enter the shop, and even assist you in selecting goods and making a purchase.
As a networker, what you’ll do at this point is to provide value through rich content. Since you already caught the attention of these strangers, it means that you can now consider them leads! And since they showed interest, they might want to know more about you and your business. So talk to your leads via blogs, webinars, videos or emails. Keep their interests up by sharing valuable information and stories that are related to your business.
So let’s say you successfully turned a stranger into a lead and then turned him/her into a client or network partner. Success, right? But should you stop there? Nope. Like any salesman, what you should do next is offer an upgrade. You have to offer an incentive for your customers to come back – like discounts, freebies, coupons and the like. In networking, what should this be? This is through valuable content, knowledge sharing, and shared success.
In networking, you and your business partners should not just succeed together, but you also have to share strategies and networking tips with each other as well. You learn and grow as a team – you have to set goals together, plan together and share successes together to keep everyone engaged and motivated to push through and thrive in the business.
One of the keys to success in networking is the ability to train future leaders. If you can train potential leaders in your network, you don’t just get competitive people within the team, but you also get to grow your network more without much effort. As long as you keep training good leaders, you can rely on them to cultivate a huge following for your network.
