In life, we get confronted by many difficult choices and tough decisions to make. Which university and degree should we enroll in, what city should we move in, what career should we follow, and many more.
The same is true when you decide to go into business. You will be confronted with many difficult choices and decisions too. Most of the time, entrepreneurs have doubts about their investments – including the time and energy they spent on the business alone.
An entrepreneur is faced with many obstacles and challenges. Primarily, the main goal is to make revenues as much as possible – and most of us want to get that FAST. While there is nothing wrong with that, the danger here is that we might be tempted to go for the easiest path.
Most of us choose the path that will be less stressful and less time-consuming. In short, we make decisions based on convenience and security. But that’s how most people operate. What sets successful entrepreneurs apart is that they don’t make decisions and choices based on what’s convenient or safe for them. They TAKE RISKS, and they are not afraid to endure pain in the process.
So if you want to learn how successful entrepreneurs process choices and decisions differently, we broke that down into 4 parts below:
Most people use the words ‘choose’ and ‘decide’ interchangeably, but successful entrepreneurs know the difference between making a choice and making a decision. Making a decision involves setting apart the most difficult and painful circumstances and then kill them off so that you will be left with the only option that a certain circumstance gives you.
When it comes to making a choice, there is no need to set things apart, or finding which ones are riskier and more difficult – you just choose freely. You can choose which option is more convenient for you, and which path is the easiest one to take. There lies the difference between choices and decisions.
Naturally, successful entrepreneurs are more inclined to make decisions than by simply choosing. Making decisions require more thought and contemplation because you have to sort out the risks and difficulties for each circumstance. Making excuses means that they are not deciding, but are merely making a choice. Excuses like lack of time, lack of capital, and lack of knowledge can lead you to make a safer choice. In effect, this means that they only have to choose – not decide.
Of course, successful entrepreneurs also make choices – but that is after they have made decisions. By making a decision, a goal is created, and choices still have to be made. From that time onwards, successful entrepreneurs mostly choose to be empowered. They choose to lead, acquire more knowledge, gain more confidence, and take any risk that will help them fulfill business plans.
To become successful, it is not enough to just choose paths or decide your circumstances. It is still important to have a plan. These plans can dictate the next step and are instrumental towards finally reaching a goal.
Most entrepreneurs also go with the opportunity that will bring them more success. It may not always be the most difficult circumstances, but it is the path that will take your business to a better future.
