More often than not, network marketers spend a huge amount of their time chasing down people or prospects, but with little to no success. Most of the time, you will just hear rejection after every rejection.
That was certainly true when we started in 2014-15. We were trying to get people to meet us in Starbucks or for hotel meetings. That did not work so well, so we tried buying lists of “opportunity seekers” and cold call them. Talk about rejection! We got yelled at and hung up on….
Sometimes those rejections are not so obvious….
You may not always get a “no”, but you will hear a lot of excuses and varieties of “no” which includes “later,” I’ll ask my wife,” or “let me get back to you.” It’s frustrating and discouraging, but if you stop prospecting, your networking business would also stop expanding. So what should you do?
This is not a problem that is unique to you.
In fact, many networkers face this problem – especially those who still use the traditional method of networking. It is not unheard of that some networkers chase random strangers in malls and cafes, only to recruit around 2 people in a span of 2 years! Yes, imagine how much resources and time was wasted in the process, and in the end, you only got 2 people to join your network.
Now the solution here is simple. You just have to stop chasing uninterested people.
Yup, that way you don’t waste your time, and you won’t be wasting theirs! The trick here is to use the Reverse Invite Method. Forget about the people who are not interested in taking a look at your business. You should focus on the people who are actually interested in the first place.
Using the Reverse Invite Method will help you weed out the interested ones from the uninterested ones. How is this done? Below is a step by step process that may help you out:
Of course, if you want to reach out to hundreds of people at once, Facebook is the best option. Creating a Facebook page will allow you to easily share posts and content to multiple people. You can also opt to transform your personal account into a public page where people can like, comment, and share on your posts.
If you want to gain extra mileage at the outset, you can pay Facebook to boost your posts. This helps you get a good headstart and reel in more audiences or followers for your page. However, if you are running on a tight budget, it’s okay to use organic tactics.
You can rack up followers for your page if you promote it personally to friends, family, and acquaintances. Then go into groups and invite people to become friends, after seeing if their profile looks promising. Just share a link, or invite people to like it. It may not be that much, but at least you get to build up an audience – and that is the most important part!
Now that you got your Facebook page, does it mean that you get to attract prospects right away? Not really.
You still have to make your page work. To consistently attract more prospects, you have to develop some curiosity posts that are not just original, but are very informative and valuable as well.
You can share content through a simple photo and caption post, but you can also do Facebook Live sessions. The trick here is to tell a story. People love stories – especially the ones that they can very much relate to! You can start by sharing your own stories – your ups and downs, problems in life, anxiety, and feelings of being stuck.
In story-telling, please don’t only tell the end result. Share the struggles, the emotions, and real examples. Then paint success also. If you want an example, read our “Meet Grace and James” on this page, where we share our struggles and successes.
Sharing is not enough, you have to engage with them too! Make sure your audience also gets to share their piece through the comments, and try to engage more with them.
Just be yourself! You will find it easier to come up with new topics and content as you get to engage more with your audience.
Facebook Lives are the “go to” strategy on Facebook. But don’t forget to save your videos and post them on YouTube also. YouTube will keep your videos alive for longer, so the same video that will disappear from the Facebook Newsfeed after a while will remain on youTube for years. Think both short term and long term!
After telling your stories, you might be wondering if it is okay to talk about your business and products along the way.
The quick answer is no. Talking about your business will turn off most of your audience, and it will only make you sound desperate.
Now you might be wondering how you can recruit prospects without telling them about your business. Well, you should tell them, but don’t go rushing them to say yes or decide too soon. Your goal here really is to engage, build an audience and solidify relationships.
Prospecting and recruiting come only second. Why? Let’s be real here. People don’t actually care about your business!
They only listen to you because they get valuable and new information. They are more interested in knowing about how you improved your life with the business you got. What things you are doing differently, and how your products created a lifestyle that you/they always wanted. So you tell them that!
Stop talking about the ingredients and technical details of your product or business, just show them how it changed your life – for the better!
Remember the overall process here: First grow your audience. Second engage with your audience. Third, promote to your audience with curiosity. Get it?
People who are truly interested in what you do will not just stop at liking and sharing your posts. They will engage with you by asking for more questions. They will comment or go to your DMs to open up a real conversation with you. This is a sign that they have already said yes. Then it is up to you to provide a link or tell them more information about your products and business.
This is why you really have to develop strong storytelling skills. Put out stories and information out there that are complete by themselves, but will leave your followers asking for more.
Talking about your products all the time turns off people, but talking about your success all the time could become really annoying as well! It is up to you to develop a strategy that can strike a good balance.
Make yourself consistently relevant. Be open and truthful about your ups and downs in life – whether past mistakes or very recent ones. Open up about your struggles and dreams.
These are universal things that everyone can relate to, and this can be applied no matter what kind of business you are in!
Once they show interest in your business, be sure to let your systems and tools explain it to them. Invite them to a webinar, or a meeting with your upline on Zoom or a three-way call. You want to show them that your attraction marketing system does the work for you, but you still also understand the importance of building relationships.
You will find that people really love this kind of high-tech, high-touch system.
