How to Passively Attract High-Quality Prospects Using Schoolyard Psychology

Let’s be real, the “law of attraction” is not just about thinking and imagining yourself in fancy situations that you want to be in. It is more of hard work and a bit of basic “schoolyard” psychology.

Using schoolyard psychology in network marketing will definitely bring many prospects at your door who are genuinely eager to hear about your business. But before that, you must attract these prospects through value. You must offer something that is valuable enough for every prospect to join your business!

So how? How can you make use of schoolyard psychology, and what is it exactly?

If you watched the movie, “Mean Girls,” then you already understand what schoolyard psychology is. Do you remember how there were popular cliques and groups in high school? And how a big deal it was to become a member of that group? To a point that a person is considered “cool,” “popular” or an “it girl” if they get to join the group – much like in the movie, “Mean Girls.”

Now that’s the schoolyard psychology of attraction. People want to be part of an exclusive group. Nowadays, millennials refer to this as FOMO or the Fear Of Missing Out. Positioning your network as an elite, exclusive group will raise curiosity, and people will find ways to join the group too!

Passively Attracting vs Actively Pushing

Seriously, when was the last time you bought something from a door to door salesman (or even entertained one at home)? Ever listened to a product demo lately? Probably not. That’s why because most of us hate it when salespeople are too desperate to make a sale. It’s a turn-off and a big waste of time. This is what we call actively pushing.

It’s just the same with network marketing. The moment you immediately ask a person if ever they are interested in your business, the answer you will most likely get is a resounding no. Some of them might make excuses just to not seem rude, but that’s basically another no. Actively pushing for your business or products can burn you out, and it will not yield too much success because it turns off a lot of consumers.

On the flip side, passively attracting prospects is more like a slow but sure process to success in network marketing. The focus here is to not actively push prospects to join your business right away, but it is more about building great relationships and mentorships! It is about providing some sort of value that they cannot get from anywhere else.

Transform Your Marketing Strategy Overnight

Switching your strategy from being pushy to passive can be done overnight. The key here is to create content that is very useful for your target market. For example, if you are selling gardening tools, your prospects don’t like to hear the technicalities of your product – right? They don’t have to be told how great your shovel is compared to other shovels in the market. What’s useful for them are gardening tips and techniques.

Stuff about organic farming and indoor planting can be very useful content for gardeners and plant enthusiasts! That way, you establish yourself as an authority in the matter, and eventually, they will trust you enough to buy from you! That’s how passive attracting works. You don’t even have to go door to door, they just voluntarily go to you.

Lots of Hungry Prospects Are Out There!

There are many prospects out there who may not even know that they need your offer in their lives. The trick here is to always provide value, and make it a scarce or exclusive resource to a select few who are willing to “join in.”

But don’t be desperate or pushy! If your target prospects are still not interested in the content or information you give, just don’t mind it. Maybe it is not yet the right time, or maybe they are not just the right people for your business. It still happens. The best thing to do is move on and spend time with better prospects.

Back to the “Mean Girls” example, Regina George cannot be considered the Queen Bee or the It Girl if she makes friends with everyone at school. She only had a few selected friends, and everyone else just feels privileged enough to even be in the same circle as hers (or to get invited to her house or party). You should build your business like Regina George. First, you have to be the trendiest, coolest and most valuable person around – to a point that other people (prospects) will be more than willing to follow in your footsteps.
