6 Hot Tips to Increase Your Engagements on Facebook Live

Whether you are a networker, business owner, social media influencer or a known personality in your community, you would want to increase the views and engagements from your Facebook live videos, right? What’s the point of putting your video out there if you can’t even elicit a reaction from your audience?

Whether we like it or not, engagements are an indicator of success (to some extent). It means that you have successfully spread awareness about your brand/business/network and that more people are actually interested in what you have to say.

So if you are looking for ways to improve your engagements on Facebook live, we compiled six hot tips for you.

Before going live, generate a hype.

Before even going live, you must create some hype about your upcoming Facebook live video to generate some interest and curiosity among your online social circle. Basically, just tell people WHY they should stand by and watch your Facebook live – tell them what they are supposed to get out of it. What should they expect? How can it help their day to day life? Give them a short description or a preview (if you can) about what your Facebook live video will be all about.

Start with a bang!

If you want to increase engagements on Facebook Live, you want to make your audience feel excited once Facebook actually sends them a notification that you are broadcasting live. You want them to say that they cannot afford to miss out on your live video, and not just skip it over for later (which they will most likely forget to watch anyway).

This is why the first few minutes are very crucial. You have to make it interesting enough for your audience to get hooked right away. You have to pique their interest high enough at the start of the video to elicit engagements.

Talk naturally.

Almost every influencer who goes on Facebook Live would either say, “let me know if you are watching this…” or “hit like if you’re getting this,” etc. Those aren’t necessarily a bad thing, but if you’re going to use the same type of statements, then you will definitely fail to create a mark in your audience’s impression.

To make your mark, you have to be original and come up with lines that are more distinct to you as an individual. So be natural. Don’t think about what most influencers say in their videos, think about how YOU want to convey ideas and initiate engagement among your audience. This leads us to…

Aim to build a community.

To elicit more engagement, you have to think that your audience and subscribers form part of your community. Instead of saying “hit like if you’re watching this right now,” why not ask your audience to type in a comment to describe the challenges and situations that they are currently struggling with? Ask them what problem they want to be addressed in your Facebook Live. Doing this will start a discussion, and your session will be more lively since audiences can get to participate. It will also get their full attention up until the very end.

You can also warm up by asking what their favorite color, movie or book is. Just incorporate seemingly random things or questions that will soon or late relate to the main topic of your Live video. Your Facebook Live community should be first and foremost an open platform – it should not be totally about you.

Drop links carefully.

Some influencers drop links in the description of their Facebook Live videos. This is actually frowned upon by Facebook and they’ll be more inclined to show your post less on the news feed because they hate it when users want to make people leave the platform on short notice.

So this is why if you are planning to put a link to your blog, website or another page, do it after your Facebook Live session. Just tell your audience that you’ll be leaving a link to your page right after finishing the video. You can either put it in the comment box or edit your description on your Live video.

Create a sense of urgency/scarcity.

Facebook Live videos can be posted as actual video content which makes them more or less permanent on your timeline. However, if you make them a little more scarce, people are more inclined to watch it right away in order to not miss it.

You can make use of a countdown – like saying 24 hours left, 12 hours left, and 2 hours left to watch the whole thing. When the countdown expires, make your video private (change settings to only me) so no one else can see it.

For people who missed it, tell them to come back when you do another Facebook Live session – you’ll see that they will stand by and watch the video right away to not miss out on them again.

Facebook is reportedly concentrating on more community-based content. This is why as much as possible, make sure all your notes, posts and audio/video content are uploaded on Facebook itself. As much as possible, avoid from linking to external sites because Facebook will be inclined to minimize its reach.

Aside from posting your content on Facebook, it is important to actually create engaging posts or customer-oriented posts. Community-based also means that Facebook users are greatly benefiting from your content and that they are finding it relevant, useful and entertaining enough to engage with.
