5 Steps Towards Successful Network Marketing

Prospecting and recruiting is basically your bread and butter in network marketing. Without doing it, you won’t be able to grow your network and expand your business.

Now you have probably heard how some of your uplines have become 7-figure earners in just a year or two. And the common mindset is that, as long as you work hard and do what they do, you will reach that certain income level too.

However, this is not always the case.

It certainly was not the case with us. When we started in 2014, we did what our uplines told us — and that got us nowhere. We failed with our first company, and then did better in 2015 with our second after we started to use online techniques. But that company was not a good choice, and went out of business. Ouch! 

Finally in 2016, we looked for better systems and better companies, and we also looked for a mentor. We found one, and that changed everything. More about that later…. 

As you might have also observed, like us, tons of networkers haven’t found much success even after more than 2 years in the industry. Some would say that most of the successful ones were just really lucky. 

But here’s the thing, luck plays only a small part in every success. While most of your uplines would tell you to “work harder” or “share your business to more people,” this does not simply work all the time. 

What we learned is that you need to learn and acquire more skills. Yes, skills that can help you improve communication and engagement with prospects and people who might be interested in your products.

Like any other profession, success in network marketing has little to do with luck. It’s all about strategy, skill, and implementation too! Especially now that we have Social Media and blogs, the rules of the game have already changed. 

Gone are the days when you have to chase down every prospect you meet. Now you let your prospects come to you through “attraction marketing”. It’s like attracting prospects with just a push of a button! Here’s how it works in 5 steps:

1. Create a strategy.

Recruiting and prospecting all starts with a strategy. If you have the luxury of time and resources, you can create your own strategy, and perform trial and error phases. However, not all of us have that luxury, so the next best thing you can do is to find a good mentor who has figured everything out. 

If your upline is still relying on the old traditional method of prospecting, it’s time to look for a mentor who actually knows attraction marketing. Attraction Marketing is a reverse of the traditional method. Instead of chasing down prospects, you let them come to you. You do this by sharing real stories and experiences, and by providing valuable information about your industry. You don’t try to attract by constantly talking about your business and products — which ends up pushing people away.

2. Make sure you make it simple and easily repeatable.

Replicating your strategy is one of the keys to success.

Obviously, it is not enough to successfully recruit just one or two people. You have to double your numbers every now and then to keep the business going. Most of all, your strategy should be easy, doable, and repeatable for your downlines too! 

If your strategy is too complicated, then it will bar your team from becoming successful networkers – and that will also reflect poorly on you. A simple and repeatable strategy is also the key to automation. So even if you don’t work too hard, you will still produce the same (or even better) results as time goes by.

The key to this is systems and automation.

3. Gain more experience.

It’s not enough to implement strategies that you have learned from mentors and other networkers.

You have to ensure that it actually works for you and your targets too. Some strategies may be generally good on their own, but to make them more effective for you, certain aspects should be tweaked to fit your personal circumstances. 

You can only do this when you have gained a lot of experience with other people (and not just your prospects). Dealing with other people who are possibly interested in networking will give you a glimpse into their buying decisions, preferences, and even pain points that you can use to enhance your strategy.

4. Pay it forward.

If you have found a strategy that works for you, and you are able to replicate it easily, the next thing to do is to pay it forward. You can help other networkers grow their own business too. They don’t even have to be your downlines nor need they be in the same business as you. 

A great strategy can be used universally, and other networkers can sure use a helping hand. Just like what you did when you were still looking for mentors. Imagine if those people just kept their strategies all to themselves? Would you be able to achieve such success without it? The people before you paid it forward… now it is your time to do it too!

5. Become a leading force.

Once you have your strategy in place, and you are replicating that strategy to help other networkers to find success, you will become a leading force in the networking industry. The authority and competence you have will even generate more followers and prospects – even without convincing them to do so. 

We found this phenomenon working for us after after we learned attraction marketing, and people saw how it had transformed our results.

People will chase you because of your knowledge, credibility, expertise, and experience. You don’t even have to chase down prospects online or offline, they will certainly come knocking at your door (or through private messages)!

We have days where people sign up in our businesses without even contacting us!  That is cool, but we like it better when we can build relationships.  Still it shows the power of this strategy.

Here’s the thing, many successful networkers actually stop at #3 and forget steps 4 and 5. This is why some networkers just become successful for a while, and then fade away into oblivion. They fail to pay it forward to the networking community and to society as a whole. 

It is important to remember that there is more to just networking. It is a profession, and like any other profession, a whole community is out there waiting for updated strategies and knowledge to develop and become better at their craft.
